I hope that, in the future generations, they don't have to face the same barriers Indigenous people are facing today, and have faced for the last 300 years.

Cheyenne Labrador, Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre

It's a special occasion when our spaces come alive with culture, storytelling, and connection. In October, we were proud to welcome two incredible celebrations of Mi'kmaq culture for Mi'kmaq History Month. On September 18, Scotiabank Centre welcomed hundreds of local secondary students for The Gifts We Carry to honour Truth & Reconciliation Day with performances from Dee Dee Austin, Neon Dreams, stories and presentations, and more. On October 4, the Halifax Convention Centre hosted the Wije'winen Kjipuktuk Gala, presented by the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre, an event 300 years in the making. Each occasion honoured the history, resilience, and future of the Mi'kmaq people, creating powerful moments of community and reflection.

See how these moments came together to create impact in our full video feature.
