"What makes Hal-Con so special? It's gotta be the community, the creativity, the people."
From November 8 to November 10, 2024, the 2024 Hal-Con Sci-Fi & Fantasy Convention returned to the Halifax Convention Centre. Cosplayers, gamers, graphic novelists, collectors, craftspeople, and our favourite television and movie stars celebrated all things nerdy right here in downtown Halifax. Hosted by loveable Canadian personality Tanner Zipchen, Hal-Con welcomed over 10,000 guests including Ben MacKenzie, Chad Michael Murray, Julian Richings, Ben Browder, and Halifax's very own Trailer Park Boys. Using every inch of the 120,000-square-foot convention centre, we asked Tanner to give us a Hal-Con tour, sharing everything Hal-Con offers and what makes this annual event so special.
Beginning as a small conference, over the last decade Hal-Con has grown to be the largest sci-fi and fantasy convention in Atlantic Canada; it is entirely volunteer-run and community-driven. In 2024, Hal-Con was awarded the Event of the Year at the Event Atlantic Excellence Awards. The event is accessible, inclusive, and truly marvelous. We can't wait for 2025.
